Lewes 2030: Powering Our Communities 25th - 26th September 2015, Lewes

To celebrate the launch of Lewes 2030, a project to encourage local planning and action towards 2030, Community Energy South is delighted to host a two day festival exploring the future of community-owned renewable energy in the south east.

On the first day of the festival, Community Energy South is delighted to be hosting its third annual conference; Powering Our Communities.

The conference will bring together communities from across the south east to share ideas and develop a 2030 vision for locally-owned renewable energy.

Featuring a programme of some of the country's leading community energy experts and policy makers, the conference will also include sessions focused on key areas of Community Energy South's core strategy, including supply, energy efficiency, energy generation and training.

Speakers for the day include Darshana Ubl, the leading entrepreneur and author; Graham Ayling, Head of Foundation at the Energy Saving Trust; Chris Tomlinson, Development Manager for the E.ON Rampion Wind Farm near Newhaven; Dr. Alister Scott, Chair of the Cuckmere Community Solar Company; and Richard Watson from Energise Sussex Coast and the inspiration behind Big Energy Saving Network in Kent and Sussex.

Additional guest speakers and a full agenda will be announced shortly.

The events during the day are free to attend (including lunch and refreshments) to ensure that as many people as possible can enjoy access to an fantastic range of speakers and community energy experts.

The World We Made: An Evening Drinks Reception with Jonathon Porritt

Following the day's Powering Our Communities conference, Community Energy South is delighted to be hosting an evening reception with Jonathon Porritt, Founder Director and Trustee of Forum for the Future, eminent and world-renowned writer, broadcaster and commentator on sustainable development.

Jonathon will talk about his book The World We Made, which is told from the perspective of someone living in 2050, and share his thoughts on how our communities may change in the future.

The reception will also feature expert insight from Philip Sellwood, Chief Executive of the Energy Saving Trust Group, and Howard Johns, Chair of Ovesco.

The reception is a paid for event and will cost £8 in advance, or £10 on the door, and will include a free drink.

Lewes 2030 Open Day

11am, Saturday 26th September 2015

The second day of Lewes 2030 is a free open day looking at how our communities are changing and what it might be like to live in Lewes in 2030.

The event will feature lots of fun and interactive activities for all ages, including face-ageing, zero carbon energy plans and map of renewable energy in Lewes District.

The event will also host part of the Make Lewes festival, including a talk at 2pm by leading environmental analyst and commentator Peter Harper from the Centre for Alternative Technology.

There is no need to reserve a space for day two of the festival, just turn up at the Linklater Pavilion on Railway Lane in Lewes at any time between 11am and 5pm, and bring your friends and family!
