Solent Local Enterprise Partnership launched with new website and newsletter

The new Solent Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP)has launched its website and first newsletter ahead of its plan to open for business by April 2011. The new LEP is being formed by Councillor Sean Woodward, Chairman of the Partnership for Urban South Hampshire, who is looking to put together a shadow board ready to start doing business in the area by April 2011.

The mission of the Solent LEP is to work closely in partnership with local business, local government and the academic sector to produce a business-led board which will command respect across the Solent area and into the heart of government.

The Solent LEP is one of just 24 local enterprise partnership proposals which was given the green light by Government on 28th October 2010 to establish a partnership.

The Solent LEP will be driven by the business community and is supported by four university partners, the further education sector, three local authorities, eight district councils and the voluntary and community sector, all of whom will be working together to secure a more prosperous and sustainable future for the Solent area.

The Solent LEP is committed to taking forward eight key areas of work in the first 18 months:

* Developing a growth hub and strategic based clusters including advanced manufacturing which encompasses marine
* Strengthening the visitor economy
* Investing in skills
* Realising the potential of the cities in the region
* Focusing on infrastructure priorities
* Supporting enterprise, new business starts and business survival
* Establishing a single inward investment and business survival
* Continuing to implement innovation in delivery and funding

The website will provide the latest updates on the developement of the partnership, the Regional Growth Fund and breaking news.
