New Chair for SMI

The Society of Maritime Industries has recently appointed a new Chair. Peter French succeeded Kelvyn Derrick as Chairman and as Chief Executive of BMT Group Ltd has been a member of the Society’s Board since 2005.

In acknowledging his appointment he commented: “I am very happy to take on this role at such a dynamic time for the industry. In recent years the Society has grown to be the trade association of choice for many companies in the maritime industries across its five business sectors. I look forward to working with my fellow Directors on representing the best interests of the industry.”

Peter French is a maritime civil engineer. He joined BMT in 1990. He is also a member of the Boards of ITIC (International Transport Intermediaries Club) and AIRTO (Association of Independent Research & Technology Organisations), member of Council of RINA, a member of the Industrial Advisory Board of the School of Engineering Sciences at the University of Southampton and a Vice President of ECMAR (European Co-operation in Maritime Research).
