Partnership launches health and safety campaign to boost awareness

Solutions – The Training and Skills Partnership is launching a campaign to help raise awareness of health and safety issues in the workplace. The campaign also looks at how, with the right training, many businesses can profit from improvements to health and safety measures.

To kick-start the campaign Solutions has issued a mini–guide to health and safety training to businesses across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.

The guide highlights why health and safety is good for business. It offers a range of courses and services to help local businesses comply with government regulations and make health and safety improvements.

Advisors at Solutions are also on hand to offer information to employers on the training their staff may benefit from. Anna Wood, Project Director at Solutions – The Training and Skills Partnership, launched the campaign today saying;

“Effective health and safety must be a priority for all businesses, regardless of their size and industry sector. As well as helping employers to comply with legal requirements, cost effective health and safety training will benefit a business by improving its performance, saving money, and reducing the significant cost and disruption that accidents and ill health can bring.

“Today we are calling on all businesses to review their health and safety training. For example, how would you deal with a first aid emergency – are your people equipped? How are you managing noise – it’s a real risk and damage to hearing by noise is permanent and can be costly to an employer if a claim is upheld in court. Did you know that legislation even applies to simple things like climbing ladders?

“At Solutions we offer a free advisory service to all businesses in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight which works with employers to identify their training requirements, and then find the right course, training provider and location to suit their needs.”

In the UK, during 2005/2006:
