New 5 Axis CNC milling machine locates in Hampshire

A huge new 150ft 5 axis CNC milling machine has been installed at the Daedalus site near Lee-on-the-Solent.

The new large-scale precision kit installed by MonsterCAM will mean that British boatbuilders can now outsource work locally rather than to mainland Europe as was previously the case.

The machine cuts fibreglass moulds to a precision of 0.2mm, as needed in the yachting industry.

Orders to use the machine have already come in from manufacturers and boat builders who had previously had to send large scale work to cut hulls, decks and other superstructures abroad.

MonsterCAM Ltd is a joint venture between Peter Hill and Terry Stubington, directors of Lee-on-the-Solent boat building firm Marine Concepts, and Nick Phelps of Curvature Group, a Hertfordshire based manufacturing company.

SMARTA Sustainability Network launched for marine companies

Marine South East has launched its SMARTA Sustainability Network for marine companies looking to develop a sustainable approach to business whilst at the same time improving their profitability.

It's now well recognised that developing a sustainable approach to business makes very sound commercial sense and can have a measurable impact on profitability, but keeping up with the latest marine-related environmental news and developments isn't always easy.

Unless you're prepared to spend time searching a plethora of websites, it can be difficult to keep track of emerging innovative technologies, environmental courses and seminars or the latest environmental legislation. Fortunately, we can save you time by delivering condensed, relevant environmental news to your inbox. We do the sorting, so if it's not relevant to the marine sector, we won't include it.

Signing-up to the SMARTA Sustainability Network will ensure you receive a link to our monthly newsletter plus invitations to local networking events, where selected specialists will provide an expert insight into topical issues.

Joining the SMARTA Sustainability Network is free of charge, as is attendance at the networking events.

If you'd like to receive more information and a signing-up form please email admin@marinesoutheast.co.uk
or download an application form from http://www.marinesoutheast.co.uk/smarta/downloads/

Coastal West Sussex is a Partnership of organisations that have joined together to champion the sustainable development of the coastal communities.

Putting people at the heart of regeneration and working across traditional boundaries the partnership is forming the foundations for investment.

The Partnership brings together key stakeholders around the key economic issues that affect the coastal strip of West Sussex from Selsey and Chichester in the west through to Shoreham in the east.

The Partnership Board is a private / public partnership chaired by Iain Shepherd, Chairman of Marine South East, who was recently elected to succeed Councilor Norman Dingemans in this role.

In an exciting new development, Caroline Wood is taking up the appointment as Coastal West Sussex Director which will begin in May 2011.

The election of a Chair from the Private Sector, and the appointment of Caroline as a dedicated manager demonstrates the commitment of everyone involved in the Partnership to carry this project forward in the post RDA era.
