New revision of Large Yacht Code published
A new revision of the gold standard Red Ensign Group Yacht Code was published on the 1st of January 2024. The code prescribes standards of safety and pollution prevention which are appropriate to the size and type of yacht, this code is designed to cater exclusively to the yachting sector.
Substantive changes have been made to reflect the relevant regulatory amendments published in recent years by the International Maritime Organization, and to accommodate current trends and innovation in design, taking into account technological changes in the industry. It includes guidance on – for example – the storage and installation of battery systems.
This revision was developed in close consultation with the Red Ensign Group Yacht Code Industry Working group which consist of a wide-ranging number of stakeholders including shipyards, vessel designers’, management companies and regulatory authorities.
Although the Code has been published, it will not come into force until July 2024 to give the industry time both to become familiar with it and comply.
