Maritime Education Project launched
Working with the Solent LEP Careers Hub, Maritime UK are setting up the Maritime Education Project, to support Solent-based schools and colleges to provide positive maritime sector careers guidance as part of their curriculum. Young people in year 8 will be targeted to help them see the importance and application of science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) subjects in maritime organisations; and help mitigate the dropping of STEM subjects when choosing GCSE options.
Eight secondary schools, plus nine employers, and the South Coast Institute of Technology have joined forces to make this project work. Year 8 has been identified as the target year so that this activity can help young people see the importance and application of science, technology, engineering, and maths (STEM) subjects in maritime organisations.
