European Commission publishes EU Industrial Maritime Strategy and Port Strategy

The European Commission has published its first EU Industrial Maritime Strategy and Ports Strategy to drive competitiveness, sustainability, decarbonisation, security and resilience within the EU's wider waterborne sector. The strategies, which focus on ports, shipping and shipbuilding, highlight Europe as the world's largest collective maritime area as well as its high-end shipbuilding and recreational marine industry and advanced maritime technologies.
The EU Industrial Maritime strategy outlines measures intended to support maritime manufacturing, innovation and sustainability across the sector including supply chain development, access to finance and infrastructure for alternative fuels in marinas and the development of clean technologies.
Built on three pillars, 'Build, Equip and Repair', 'Transport and Connect' and 'Secure and Protect', the strategy focuses on accelerating the twin green/digital transition, securing maritime supply chains and strengthening naval defence capabilities.
The EU Ports Strategy focuses on improving the resilience and sustainability of port infrastructure.
